Which format to use
Code 128 is the usual choice for SKUs and tracking codes. EAN-13 and UPC-A are for retail products. ITF-14 marks shipping cartons. Codabar is common in libraries and healthcare.
Steps

Worked example
Code 128 accepts mixed letters for an internal SKU. EAN-13 needs the correct digit length including checksum — a short string will not be a valid retail code. QR Code Generator is 2D. Nothing is uploaded. Verify with a phone scanner before print.

Common mistakes
Choosing EAN-13 and typing an internal SKU will not scan at a grocer — the digit length and checksum have to match the format. Code 128 is the usual warehouse fallback. Quiet-zone (white margin) matters when you crop the PNG; do not trim to the bars. QR Code Generator is a different symbology. Print at a size your cheapest scanner can read. Generation is local; we do not register GTINs. Close the tab if the value is an unpublished product code.
