How to calculate a credit-weighted 4.0 GPA
Letter maps, quality points, and what Toolora’s GPA Calculator does not apply from a registrar’s rules.
Weighted means credits matter
A semester GPA is quality points divided by attempted credits, not the average of letter grades. A four-credit C pulls more than a one-credit A. Toolora maps A/A+ = 4.0, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B− = 2.7, and so on down to F = 0. You can type a numeric quality point such as 3.7 if your catalog publishes points instead of letters. Each line is `grade, credits`. Blank lines are ignored. Example: A, 3 / B+, 4 / A−, 3 is 36.3 quality points over 10 credits, GPA 3.63.
What this page will not do
It does not apply repeated-course forgiveness, pass/fail omission (leave those rows out yourself), major-only filters, or honors weighting such as +0.5 on a 5.0 scale. If your school uses 7.0 or percentage-to-GPA tables, convert with the catalog, then enter the numeric points. Credits cannot total zero. This is planning math, not an official transcript.
Worked check
Three courses at 4.0, 3.0, and 2.0 with credits 3, 3, and 4: quality = 12 + 9 + 8 = 29, credits = 10, GPA = 2.9. If you drop the 2.0 course from the list, GPA rises — that is what “repeat and replace” policies try to model, and you must edit the lines yourself to match the registrar.
